How can I import a shipment?

For a commercial import you will be required to hold an Economic Operator Registration and Identidication (EORI) scheme number which is a number issued by customs authorities per entity. If you have previously imported and have a VAT number you can verify if you have an EORI. This is the structure: DE, VATnumber and 000 suffix, no gaps (example DE2424460).

Your shipper will have provided an invoice, in most cases this will be sufficient to allow goods to be processed at import once the EORI is known. That said, certain products will require additional accurate research and have supporting permits or licenses (animal & plant products including endangered species,certain medication),
A tariff code will be assigned that meets the description of the goods, duty and/or VAT will be assessed.
For a private or personal import FedEx will take care of the entry process on your behalf. A tariff code will be assigned that matches the goods description and appropriate duty and or VAT levied.
Some exceptions to duty and tax exist:

Goods valued below €22.00 are duty and VAT free (bar goods subject to excise duty).
Gifts to the individual, per person: VAT free
Duty relief only below €150
