Accounts and Payments

Why do I have to make a pre-payment of import Duties & Taxes?

For the vast majority of shipments which arrive into the United Kingdom where import Duty VAT is levied by HM Revenue and Customs, FedEx will clear the entry declaration to HM Revenue and Customs to expedite delivery of your shipment and seek reimbursement by issuing you an invoice for the import charges + administration fee after delivery of your shipment.

The current conditions where pre-payment of import Duty and VAT is not applied are:

- If you hold an active account with FedEx and your details have been verified within our import clearance system, we will release the shipment for delivery where the import taxes are less than 5,000.00.

- If you do not hold an account with FedEx and the total import charges are less than the following values;

Company 200.00

Private Individual 100.00

FedEx will expedite delivery of the shipment and seek reimbursement by issuing you an invoice for the import charges + administration fee after delivery of the shipment.

The current conditions where pre-payment of import Duty and VAT will be applied are:

- If the import taxes are greater than 5,000.00 the shipment will be subject to an internal credit check, where you fail to meet our requirements your package will be held for pre-payment.

- FedEx will hold the shipment for pre-payment of the import charges if your FedEx account shows evidence of overdue debt or past history shoes failure to comply with our payment terms.

- The shipment is due to incur a high value of import charges which is out of scope of your recent import history

If you do not hold an account with FedEx and the import charges exceed the following limits:

Company 200.00

Private individual 100.00

If the Declared Value for Customs of the item(s) is deemed excessive and the billing instructions on the FedEx international Air Waybill for Duties Taxes indicate the charges should be billed to an offshore account, delays may be incurred whilst FedEx undertake credit checks with the offshore Country.
