What is a CITES certificate?

CITES certificates are needed to import protected products by CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) which is an international agreement between governments. Its aim is to ensure that international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival. If the Shipper intends to ship merchandise manufactured with any Species of wild fauna and flora covered by CITES they must provide the CITES form regardless of value.

The following is a general list of commodities regulated by CITES:

Bird & goose feathers

Butterflies/Insects

Caviar & sea shells

Furs, deer skin & hunting trophies

Ivory articles & tusks

Mother of pearl (MOP)

Alligator, antelope, ostrich, lizard & crocodile leather

Seal skins, sharkskin & whalebone articles

Tortoise or turtles and products of their shells.
